The session will dive into how electricity prices are set, recent national and Illinois trends, key drivers behind price changes, and market developments shaping future costs. Attendees will also learn about tools and strategies that states are deploying to navigate these evolving dynamics.

Featured speakers for this webinar include Will Gorman, Research Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who co-authored a Science Direct white paper on factors influencing recent retail electricity price trends; Nathan Miller, Senior Director at Energy + Environmental Economics, Inc., which collaborated with IPA and other Illinois state agencies on the Resource Adequacy Study; and James Rouland, IPA Planning & Procurement Chief. Allison Richard of Anderson Richard Consulting and Regina McCormack, Policy Director at Illinois Solar Energy & Storage Association, will focus the discussion on the Trailer Bill (HB4996),including key provisions, potential implications for the solar and energy storage market, and what stakeholders should be aware of as the legislation evolves. The conversation will also touch on how the bill fits within the broader Illinois policy landscape and ongoing priorities for the clean energy sector.

2026 Solar and Storage Lobby Day & Legislative Solar Tailgate (19 May 2026)

Join Solar Powers Illinois in Springfield for two days of connection, advocacy, and impact at our Solar and Storage Lobby Day & Legislative Solar Tailgate.

Kick things off on Tuesday, May 19 from 5:00–7:30 PM with a fun and relaxed networking tailgate alongside the House vs. Senate Softball Game at Lincoln Park Baseball Field in Springfield. Enjoy great food from the Twyford BBQ Food Truck, refreshments, and the chance to connect with peers while cheering on Illinois legislators.

Then, on Wednesday, May 20, come together with industry leaders to engage directly with policymakers during Solar & Storage Lobby Day. Participants will meet with legislators to discuss the Trailer Bill (HB4996) and other key energy issues. You’ll be placed in a lobbying group based on your market segment and location, and provided with all necessary materials and talking points. To prepare, we’ll gather that morning at 8:00 AM at Boone’s for breakfast and a briefing before heading to the Capitol.
