How the tour works Print E-mail

The Solar Tour is a self guided event, allowing visitors to select sites of interest and plan their day.  In some neighborhoods we have provided a suggested tour route including a bike map that highlights several locations for a fun family event.

You may now download the 2008 Illinois Solar Tour Guide Book HERE (PDF).

We have divided the state into 10 different regions. See the categories below to find sites near you.
In each region, there is a grid of sites. The grid features information on each site: city and an at-a-glance checklist of technologies featured at each site. Click on the site name for a detailed description, contact information and directions.

Tour Etiquette

  • Please only visit Tour homes or buildings during the Tour hours of Saturday, October 4th from 10 AM to 3 PM.
  • Please park legally at or near the Tour sites and treat persons and property legally and respectfully.
  • If the site indicates "Outside viewing only" please do not go onto the property.  View the site safely and observe traffic laws.
  • Please do not bring pets or anyone who may not be able to behave in a proper manner.
  • Please do not smoke, eat, drink or litter in the Tour sites and remove footwear if requested.
  • Please do not take pictures or other records without permission of the home or building owner or agent.
  • Vendors and their representatives who staff Tour sites should conduct the tour in a manner appropriate to the educational mission of the Association.
