The Solar House




The Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA) Solar House is a self-contained demonstration lab containing both photovoltaic (pv) and solar thermal panels.


The ISEA Solar House, one of the first of its kind, has been displayed at Illinois State Fair and at numerous educational events in Illinois.


The Solar House contains three 85 watt pv panels, which are warranted for 25 years.

The panels are connected to an inverter, charge controller, breaker box, and batteries inside the house.

This system generates enough electricity to power approximately 25% of the needs of a family of four.

The house also has an array of solar thermal evacuated tubes. This sized array can supply roughly half the hot water needs of a family of four.

Both the pv and solar thermal systems are mounted to the roof with a XRS Rail system.

Solar House Includes:

  • A CD player and CD of sunshine music
  • A solar lily pad fountain and bucket for the water
  • A solar cell phone charger
  • A fan
  • Small table
  • Signs that Velcro to either side of the house describing the PV and Thermal installations on the house
  • ISEA brochures and signs

General Requirements for Hauling:

1. Hitch with a 2 inch ball

2. Wiring harness (for brake lights, turn signals)

3. Towing capacity (for the specific vehicle towing the trailer)

The trailer is approximately 12 ft by 6 ft, 8 inches (not including the hitch).
