Michael Higgins - Springfield, IL

System Details:
14kW solar PV installation comprised of 56 US Made Isofoton 250 watt modules coupled with Enphase microinverters. This system offsets approximately 15% of the restaurant's annual consumption and was installed in October of 2013. The restaurant did a complete LED lighting install in 2015 to further offset consumption.

What made you go solar?

I went solar because I had funding opportunities through the City of Springfield, the tax credit, accelerated depreciation and an IGEN grant in conjunction with the local community college, Lincoln Land. That partnership served to allow community education about solar and its benefits. My original interest in pursuing solar was to be a model for other businesses in Springfield.

Advice:
The most important thing is to find a qualified installer/developer to educate you about solar and advise of funding opportunities. This takes the intimidation out of a solar project. ISEA should consider adding a section for references of its business members to help consumers validate credentials of installers.
