A New Energy Approach in a Cold Climate: Manitoba Hydro Place Case Study

  • 16 Apr 2012
  • 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • CETCO, 2870 Forbs Avenue, Hoffman Estates, IL 60192
Manitoba Hydro Place, at 690,000 square feet, is the largest office building in Winnipeg, Canada. The 22 story “cold weather sustainable” headquarters is the home to 1,800 Manitoba Hydro employees. This tower is the first of the next generation of sustainable buildings that integrate time-tested environmental concepts with advanced technologies to achieve a “living building,” dramatically responding to the local climate.

This presentation will highlight the design process and the innovative features that contribute to the building’s superior indoor environment and efficient energy use. Areas that will be covered include operable windows used for natural ventilation, a solar chimney, displacement ventilation, daylighting, a geo-exchange system and operating data results.

Hosted by the USGBC-Illinois North/Northwest Suburban Branch in conjunction with the Chicago Building Congress and the Illinois Solar Energy Association
