On Saturday September 24th, citizens of Chicago will come together on the International Day of Climate Action to call for a roll out of current solutions to the climate crisis. Roll Beyond Coal is an event that will bring Chicagoans together to create a local movement to build clean, climate smart transportation and energy options that are good for our health and planet. Our event is one of many planned worldwide calling on leaders and corporations, those who have previously denied or moved too slowly to address climate change, to stop holding up progress and to get moving now to work with us to solve the climate crisis.
Event Details
This event is part bike ride, part rally.
Participants can choose to participate in both activities or just come to the rally. On Saturday morning, bikers from all over Chicago will converge on Daley Plaza. They will leave Daley Plaza at 11 a.m. to caravan to Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood and meet up with rally goers near the Fisk Coal Fired Power Plant. Near Fisk, we will rally @ 12:30 p.m. and then march to call for an end to the toxic pollution from the Fisk and Crawford Coal Plants and current plans for dirty energy projects and demand a swift transition to clean energy and jobs.
At the rally, opportunities will be provided for Chicagoans to engage in climate action beyond the event. Our goal is to create a strong climate movement capable of developing its own solutions to the climate crisis that has the power to influence politicians and corporations so their work is just and benefits our climate and health.
Let’s work together to build a clean energy future. Are you ready to join us on this exciting journey?
