Sponsored by the City of Carbondale Economic Development Office, the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, the City of Carbondale Sustainability Commission, SIU Sustainability and Illinois South Solutions.

Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA) president Shannon Fulton, along with representatives from several regional solar energy companies, will present on “The Economic Benefits of Going Solar” at the first Carbondale Solar Conference on Thursday, September 24th, 2:00 to 5:00 pm, at the Carbondale Civic Center.

The speakers will explore a wide range of economic incentives, grants, rebates and programs for bringing solar to Carbondale businesses, non-profits, schools and residences. Hosted by Gary Williams, Assistant City Manager for Economic for the City of Carbondale, and Brent Ritzel, co-owner of Equitech International / Equares Energy Companies, Project Developer for StraightUp Solar and an Illinois South Solutions facilitator, the day’s line-up features more than 100 years experience in the solar energy business:

Tien Solar, LLC (San Diego, CA / Austin, TX / Carbondale, IL) owner Thomas Tien and electrical engineer Bernie Henneberger will discuss their innovative Solar PV Tree landscape design.

Affordable Gas & Electric (Mt. Vernon, IL) Managing Partner Jeff Haarmann and Operations VP Ross Calliott will present on opportunities in investment grade solar.

StraightUp Solar (St. Louis, MO) Director of Strategic Development Mike Hornitschek will discuss joining the solar energy tribe from the perspective of Missouri’s most experienced solar PV installer.

Advanced Energy Solutions (Carbondale, IL) Chief Tech Aur Beck will present on his experience installing solar throughout the region and beyond for the last sixteen years.

Tick Tock Energy (Effingham, IL) Vice President Craig Pals will discuss solar energy’s continually evolving economics along with utilizing solar tracking systems.

Illinois Solar Energy Association (Elk Grove Village, IL) President Shannon Fulton will present the keynote address regarding Illinois’s SREC (Solar Renewable Energy Credit) Program and other incentives for both Southern Illinois businesses and residences.

Having the potential to qualify for the 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit, the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System, Solar Renewable Energy Credits [SRECs], and the up to 25% of cost USDA Rural Energy for America Program Grant, Southern Illinois businesses are truly facing a golden age when it comes to the opportunity to go solar. Combined, these measures can very readily reduce the total cost of a solar array by more than 75%.

While the focus of this first Carbondale Solar Conference will be on opportunities for regional business owners, this free public event will also be extremely informative to those non-profits, residents and students alike who are interested in learning more about solar, especially those already considering going solar themselves.

This event is sponsored by the City of Carbondale Economic Development Office, the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, the City of Carbondale Sustainability Commission, SIU Sustainability and Illinois South Solutions.
