    Power Hour Event

Come learn about Solar Ambassador Scott Willenbrock's Champaign solar system.

When: Saturday, February 13, 2 PM

Where: 1017 W. White St., Champaign

This spring, home and business owners in Champaign County have an opportunity to take advantage of record low solar pricing through a limited-time solar group purchase program. Solar Urbana-Champaign is a grassroots group buy program made possible through a U.S. Department of Energy Sunshot Grant to the MREA that is allowing residents, businesses, & organizations within Champaign County to have access to high-quality solar installations for the lowest installed cost in the state. StraightUp Solar was selected as the solar installation contractor for the program through a competitive bidding process and will be available to answer questions at all Solar Urbana-Champaign events.

The Solar Urbana-Champaign special pricing offer runs from now until May 30th, and the cost of a solar installation will become even MORE affordable as more participants decide to go solar, so tell your friends and neighbors to help lower the group purchase price for everyone! Sign up for a free solar site evaluation & learn more about the program at

    • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    • Coalition Energy 18 S. Michigan Ave Chicago, IL 60603

#NationWISE is a multi-city round table that looks to address how to help women enter and grow in each local market. On February 23rd, Women in Solar Energy (WISE) will hold #NationWISE events in cities around the country to facilitate local conversation and feature women employed in aspects of the market unique to each city.

    Why Hold It?

The solar market is BIG. According to SEIA, 21 states have installed over 100MW of solar in the US! But it’s also diverse: depending on where you live you may be more likely employed in utility scale projects, mom and pop shops, YeildCos, policy development, or residential sales (and that’s just the tip of the iceberg). A diverse industry means diverse job opportunities that should include more diversity across in the industry.

    About the Chicago Event

We’ll be meeting at Coalition Energy (18 S. Michigan) from 6-8pm on Tuesday February 23rd. The evening will include a panel discussion about increasing women in the clean tech workforce.

PV 201 (PV Site Assessment)-  April 9

The Site Assessment Certificate Program is a program of the MREA offered through the Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA), a recognized training provider . The MREA/ISEA  Site Assessment Certificate Program trains individuals to provide site-specific renewable energy assessment and consumer education.Since August of 2012, the PV Site Assessment  Certificate Program has been accredited by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC).

The MREA /ISEA Site Assessor Certificate provides skills training needed by professionals engaging consumers in renewable energy systems for their home s and businesses. Site assessors evaluate the energy consumption of a household or business, as well as the solar or wind resource at the location. They help clients understand system options and their benefits. They work with clients to recommend the site and size of the solar or wind system that will best fit their needs . Site assessors also estimate system production and identify the cost, incentives, and financing options available.

    Course Description
Participants in this eight-hour course will learn how to perform a PV site assessment for a home or small business. The course will cover site assessment tools, load analysis, energy efficiency recommendations, array placement options, basic system sizing, cost estimates, and evaluating existing infrastructure on site. Participants will learn how to access online tools for solar resource analysis, PV system performance calculators, and incentives.

    Course Objectives
