Dear Representative/Senator….,

As a constituent, a member of Illinois Solar Energy Association, and a supporter of renewable energy, I wanted to speak with you about the importance of voting for SB103. Illinois has a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to encourage the development of renewable energy, which translates to new local businesses and jobs while simultaneously enriching our power supply mix. Due to the recent en masse municipal aggregation resulting in over 450 municipalities selecting Alternative Retail Energy Suppliers (ARES), the mechanism for funding the RPS is broken.

SB103 provides a very simple fix - move compliance from the supply side to the distribution side. This is a no-cost solution, yet simplifies the process immensely. This simple change will allow the RPS to function as originally intended, provide the funding and stability necessary for the development of local renewable energy, and generate a positive market resulting in new businesses and jobs. In fact, in a study conducted by Vote Solar, over the next 5 years Illinois has the opportunity to create 27,000 new jobs and drive over $3.4 billion in business development in the solar industry alone.
